What’s in the box

Tools you’ll need

Step-by-step installation

  1. 1

    Unbox & inspect

Open the package and check for visible damage. Confirm the items listed under What’s in the box are all present.

  2. 2

    Choose installation location

Mount the unit inside a dry, ventilated enclosure away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Leave at least 10 mm clearance around the unit for the labelled connection terminals.

  3. 3

    Mount the unit

Secure the controller to a flat surface using the mounting holes, or clip it onto a 35 mm DIN-rail if your panel uses one.

  4. 4

    Switch off mains power

Important, isolate the 230 V circuit at the breaker before wiring the relay output. Verify it is dead with a multimeter.

  5. 5

    Connect 12V DC input

Wire the supplied 12V DC adapter to the V+ and GND terminals. Mind the polarity, reversing it will not damage the unit (protected), but the unit will not power up.

  6. 6

    Wire the 230V load

Connect the load (e.g. motor, lamp or contactor coil) between COM and NO on the relay block. Keep the load current under 2 A, use an external contactor for heavier loads.

  7. 7

    Power on & check LEDs

Restore mains, then 12V power. The PWR LED should be solid; the WIFI LED blinks while broadcasting its setup hotspot.

  8. 8

    Join the device hotspot

On your phone, connect to the Wi-Fi network apiHW-Flap-XXXX (where XXXX is the last 4 chars of the unit’s MAC). No password is needed in setup mode.

  9. 9

    Open the web interface

In your browser, visit http://192.168.4.1. The apiHW setup page should load within a few seconds.

  10. 10

    Configure your Wi-Fi

Enter your home/office Wi-Fi name and password. The unit reboots and joins your network, the WIFI LED will go solid once connected.

  11. 11

    Pair the RF433 remote (optional)

Press and hold the PAIR button on the controller for 3 seconds, the RF LED blinks fast. Press any button on the remote within 10 seconds. A solid LED confirms pairing.

  12. 12

    Test the operation

Trigger the relay from the web interface and via the RF remote. Confirm the load activates cleanly and the relay clicks audibly.

Safety & precautions

Troubleshooting

The device won’t power on at all.
Confirm the 12V adapter outputs the right voltage with a multimeter. Check polarity into V+/GND. Try a known-good outlet.
My phone can’t see the apiHW-Flap-XXXX hotspot.
Hold the RESET button for 5 seconds, the unit returns to setup mode. Make sure your phone’s Wi-Fi is on 2.4 GHz (not 5 GHz) and that you are within 5 m of the controller.
The relay clicks but the load doesn’t turn on.
Verify the load wiring across COM/NO with a multimeter (continuity when the relay closes). Check that the load current is within the 2 A limit. Inspect for loose terminal screws.
Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting after setup.
apiHW Flap v1 supports 2.4 GHz only. If your router broadcasts a single SSID across 2.4 and 5 GHz, create a separate 2.4 GHz SSID for IoT devices, or lock the controller’s channel in router settings.
The RF remote doesn’t pair.
Replace the remote battery. Stay within 3 m during pairing. The controller stores up to 8 remotes, clear the list from Settings → Remotes if it’s full.
